Ranking Central Florida's top 10 high-school quarterbacks

For an area that produced Hagerty's Jeff Driskel (Florida) in 2011 and Winter Park's Asiantii Woulard (UCLA) last year, Central Florida is highly regarded for its high-school quarterbacks.

This season's list may not include a player on that level, but the number of potential impact players is much deeper. Consider that our ranking of the top 10 QBs, which took into account past production, potential and value to his team, does not include a player coming off a 2,000-yard passing season, Jimmy Kealy of Freedom; a player who has committed to UAB, Drew Eckels of South Daytona Warner Christian; or Volusia County's leading passer in 2012, Marcus Johnson of New Smyrna Beach.

10. Ervin Barrett

The 6-foot-3 sophomore nicknamed "Woody'' started one game last year for Evans, seeing limited time as a backup, but is poised for a breakout season.

"I don't think there is another quarterback with his size and ability around here,'' Lyman coach Jeff Gierke said. "The kid is freaky.''

9. Jabari Dunham

A great athlete who stars on the basketball team and is a talented safety. Dunham transferred from Eustis to Leesburg after totaling more than 2,000 offensive yards and 14 touchdowns for the Panthers as a junior.

8. Bryant Mosher

Although the Mount Dora senior missed his junior year with a knee injury, his 314-yard, five-TD performance in a spring game showed he is capable of leading the Hurricanes to a district title, a feat not accomplished in 20 years.

7. Hayden Griffitts

West Orange fans hope to see their team in the playoffs for the first time since 1999, and the play of their senior quarterback will be key. He threw for 1,793 yards and 23 TDs and rushed for 516 yards and six more TDs last year.

6. Jerrell Antoine

Oak Ridge's dual-threat quarterback possesses a strong arm and is extremely elusive when plays break down. He attracted an offer from Louisville following his sophomore year and responded with a 2,000-yard junior season.

5. Jason Driskel

Just like his brother, Jeff, Jason starts for Hagerty and will play Division I football after committing to Florida Atlantic this month.

"He's as sound mechanically as anyone I've seen," Oviedo coach Wes Allen said. "He controls the game very well.''

4. Tucker Israel

The Lake Nona junior is on pace to break multiple area career-passing records. In two seasons, he has amassed 6,609 passing yards and 67 touchdowns.

3. Deondre Francois

The talented passer from Olympia gained offers from Louisville and North Carolina after throwing for over 1,600 yards last year as a sophomore.

"He can make all the throws and has a quick release,'' said former Olympia coach Bob Head, who is in his first season at West Orange. "He's one of the best in the state.''

2. Chris Davis

The senior led Oviedo to a region final last year, and the Lions could be better this year with his leadership. The UCF commit had nearly 2,000 offensive yards and accounted for 17 touchdowns in 2012.

1. Zack Darlington

The 2012 All-Central Florida Offensive Player of the Year committed to Nebraska six weeks ago. He passed for 1,725 yards and 19 TDs and rushed for 708 yards and 10 TDs in leading the Blue Darters to the Class 8A state championship.
