The Humane Society of the United States and Aardman Animations have been named as winners in the 34th Annual Telly Awards for ?A Pig?s Tail.? The film earned the award in the Animation category.
In 2012, The HSUS teamed with Aardman, the Academy Award-winning animation studio, to produce ?A Pig?s Tail,? a four-minute animated children?s film exposing problems of factory farming from the perspective of a piglet named Ginger. Made possible with funding from the Steven C. Leuthold Family Foundation, the film features voices from actress Catherine Taber and voice actor James Arnold Taylor of the animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."
Aardman director, Sarah Cox, said: ??A Pig?s Tail? was one of those rare opportunities to direct a film about a subject that I really care and feel passionate about. The more children understand about the food they eat and its production, the more informed choices they can make. It was a pleasure to work with The Humane Society of the United States on this and I am delighted that we won a Telly Award.?
Joe Maxwell, The HSUS? vice president of outreach and engagement who oversees the organization?s Rural Development Program, said: ?As a family farmer I congratulate Aardman and The HSUS for showing there can be a better way for farm animals, farmers and our environment. At The HSUS, we are proud to support those farmers who are good stewards of their animals and the environment.?? ?
Aardman, known for its signature animation in feature films, was most recently nominated in the Best Animated Film category at the 85th Annual Academy Awards for ?The Pirates! Band of Misfits.?
The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions and online commercials, video and films.
??A Pig?s Tail,? intended for children ages 7 to 10 and accessible to all audiences, follows Ginger and her mother as they experience life on a typical industrial factory farm. After Ginger is taken from her mother, she is determined to escape. The film follows her journey, and the evolution of a farmer who opens his eyes to a more humane and sustainable way of farming.
