Sony?s coming to market with yet another set of handsets for the mid-range market. The Japanese company has announced the Sony Xperia SP and Sony Xperia L, neither of which are meant to send big ripples in the smartphone pond but should be nice options for those not looking to spend much.
Starting with the Xperia SP, this device has a 4.6 inch HD Reality Display (720p) with Bravia Engine 2 display technology. The device takes a few cues from the ?high-end design? handbook as it utilizes a ?co-moulded? aluminum chassis. Coming in white, black, and red, the device also houses an 8 megapixel Exmor camera sensor as well as an illuminated bottom bar that can change colors and be customized for various things such as incoming call and text notifications, email and more. More functional specs include Qualcomm?s 1.7GHz dual-core MSM8960 Pro processor, 8GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, a 2,370mAh battery, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and more.
The Xperia L sits a bit below the SP on the food chain with its 4.3 inch FWVGA display (854?480). It will also launch with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and will house Qualcomm?s 1GHz MSM8230 dual-core processor. Other features include Sony?s standard 8 megapixel Exmor camera, 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded with a microSD card slot, a 1,750mAh battery and more.
Sony expects the Xperia L and SP to be available worldwide beginning in the second quarter of this year, though specific carrier details have yet to be revealed. Some markets may only see the device in unlocked form so take heed to that warning before you get too excited for it to hit your local carrier. Read on for full press details.
